Scenario/Position Paper

Due: Monday, October 5, 2020

Directions:

Read the case study titled: Community Health Interventions: Prevention’s Role in Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities

You will be assigned an ethnic group to complete your research on the following:

1. African Americans
2. American Indians and Alaska Natives
3. Mexican Americans
4. Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders

Part IIntroduction should include:

1. Diseases common to that group
2. Mores/folklore about the health of this group (history, beliefs& stereotypes)

Part II Advantages vs. disadvantages

• Insurance/medications/preventive health measures
• Financial considerations (local/state/federal programs), affordability (SSI, welfare, Affordable Care Act (Obama Care), company insurance plans

Part III Write the scenario depicting the facts found for  your group

You will create a scenario/position on this ethnic group and the implications of health disparities. You will create a pro and con scenario/position on your group.

(Example: Native American – Tommy White Hawk, age 33, lives on a reservation, receives public assistance for health care and has to support a family of five. The government has chosen to put a cap on the amount of assistance per the family receives each year.  Tommy is diagnosed with siroccos of the liver due to excessive alcohol use. Tommy struggles with his medical follow ups due to fear of more bad news.

Pro – use this narration to find some good in the situation

Con – use this narration to come to a conclusion of not using the services that are available to no or low cost.
