Assignment Description:

Last week you interviewed someone from either your own place of work, a friend you, or someone you found through an internet search (you are not required to name the organization or the interviewee). Use the interview you completed last week to create a PowerPoint presentation in which you analyze an organization in which you can detect one or more major problems (lack of motivation, stress management, ineffective management style and poor job satisfaction). While interviewing your subject, be aware of the networking and career building skills that you will be using to complete this assignment. These skills can include problem-solving, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, positive language and use of social media.

As an I/O professional, you will often be tasked with conducting a needs assessment for organizations. Utilize organizational theory to describe how the problems arose and how they are maintained and apply this theory to derive reasonable suggestions to resolve the problem. Look specifically at leadership styles, motivational theories, job satisfaction, and common stressors. You want to consider the I/O code of ethics when you are conducting your interview and the career building skills that you are using for the assessment and how they can be applied for your future career.

You will need to include slides with the following information:

  • Describe the organization, their size, location, industry, and products
  • Identify the organization’s key strengths and challenges.
  • Analyze the organization’s approach to hiring, managing, developing and supporting employees.
  • Identify motivational theories and common stressors at work.
  • Describe what resources exist to improve the problems
  • Discuss the ethical considerations with implementing changes to an organization.
  • Determine which skills and methods are most appropriate for the organization’s problem/s
  • Explain the skills that you used to conduct the needs assessment and how these will help you in your career as an I/O professional.
  • After completing this assignment, identify two networking and career building skills that you felt you used for this assignment.
  • Identify two skills you feel that you will continue to be mentored in for your professional development.

PowerPoint Instructions:

Your Assignment should be at least 13 slides, not including the title and reference slides, and should include the following elements:

  • Title slide:
    • Provide your name, title of Assignment, course and unit number, and date
  • Body:
    • Draw from the course material and utilize speaker notes to briefly elaborate on the concepts covered in each slide.
