Engineering chemistry
PE Year 1 sem2 TECHEM Marks 10
Learning Objectives:
Interpret to design using the new technology counting the economic and environmental factors
Learning Opportunities:
Develop critical thinking, analytical thinking, problem solving, decision making skills, evaluating, team work and leadership skills
Introduction
The task/study is to survey the industrial processes using the knowledge of industrial chemistry which helps in development for new
manufacturing processes or environmental treatment. Industrial chemists are also working to improve efficiency in fields such as
petrochemicals, energy production, productions of perfumes form plants, insect repellants, water pollution, analysis of various products, and
extraction of caffeine from seeds and so on….
This assessment is chosen to investigate industrial processes with safety environmental conditions to get the maximum yield with economic
factors and conditions used.
Topic: Surface Chemistry –Colloidal solutions
a. Analyse the topic
b. Collect information and debate about the topic by discussing among the group members.
c. Look at the economic factors, conditions used, nature of things
Recommendations:
The continuous assessment should comprise the following points

  1. Title page
  2. Introduction
  3. Significance of study: Discuss the significance of the topic
  4. Process: Collect the information about the process
  5. Economic factors: This presents the data collected via the methodology described above.
  6. Conditions used to get maximum yield

    clearly defined the
    significance;
    Data is effective; Ideas,
    theory and information
    sources sufficiently
    integrated to support the
    significance of this process
    Data is acceptable to a
    certain level; information

    ambiguous observations.
    Data is of a
    low level;
    significance
    is not clearly
    mentioned
    Poor data
    Economic factors Identifies all relevant
    factors/matters pertinent to
    the problem, case, or issue
    and recognizes the
    significance of any
    interrelationships to operate
    the process
    Identifies all relevant
    factors/matters pertinent to
    the problem, case, or issue
    for operating the process
    Relevant economic
    factors are missing that
    are very important while
    operating the process
    Fails to
    identify a
    number of
    significant
    factors/matter

    Fails to identify
    most of the
    relevant
    factors/matters
    and/or the
    significant
    interrelationships
    that exist.
    Conditions to get
    maximum yield
    Critically evaluates/evidence
    (e.g. in terms of reliability,
    validity, significance,
    relevance, contradictions,
    linkage to theory) and
    evaluates organizational
    practices to get maximum
    yield in the operation carried
    out
    Relevant validity,
    significance, relevance,
    contradictions, linkage to
    theory) and evaluates
    organizational practices to
    get maximum yield in the
    operation carried out with
    additional information good
    confidence level and well
    executed results
    Significant aspects of
    information/evidence
    either not scrutinized or
    scrutinized in only a
    superficial way.
